Baxter & Cicero History

Baxter & Cicero Sailmakers of Newport Beach was founded in 1937 by two corporate executives, Gardiner & Baxter, who wanted a sailmaking facility for their yacht on the West Coast.  Saint Cicero was brought into the company after he fulfilled his WWII military service and eventually the company became known as Baxter & Cicero. 

In 1982, Hank Thayer, sailmaker and professional sailor, and Joan Susman, business manager and avid sailor, took over operations and management and eventually purchased "Baxter & Cicero" from the remaining Cicero family members.

Although Baxter & Cicero is still a Full Service Sail Loft, it has affiliated itself with North Sails as an Authorized Agent.  In addition to Sails and Repairs, Baxter & Cicero manufactures a complete line of Canvas Products, including Boat Covers, Bimini Tops, Enclosures, Dodgers, Sail Covers, Sail Bags, etc. 

Custom Embroidery Services are available for its line of Soft Luggage, Board Bags, and Embroidered Sportswear (shirts and jackets).  Our production capabilities also include Equipment Covers, Sample Bags, and Corporate Awards.
